Thursday September 17th:

Pecha Kucha Night Vol. 4

HartWitzen Gallery
136 E. 36th St, 28206

7:30 pm - Midnight

I never cared for the Barcelona Pavilion. Yes, it is a wonderful arrangement of points, lines, and planes, but to me it always seemed lifeless. This series of images documents the reason I have changed my position. I discovered how the building exists as an experience, in addition to being the idyllic architectural composition: the layering of images by reflecting space upon space. The complex spatial and image configurations created by this condition provide a mystifying experiential counterpoint to the clinical gestalt design exhibited in the plan, section and elevation.

I will be speaking briefly about the series of images I took while visiting the Barcelona Pavilion in Barcelona, Spain. Please come out for the evening. There will be many interesting presentations and performances.

Thanks!

Friday September 18:

Desolation Wilderness w/ Cement Stars + Ahleuchatistas
@ Snug Harbor
1228 Gordon Ave, 28205
9 pm

From KINNIKINNIK:

DESOLATION WILDERNESS has put out an album of shimmery, sun-filled shoegaze. I’m digging the heck out of it, and it’s a lot more upbeat than the previous album (which I also enjoyed). They’re on K RECORDS and have a great live set. The guy who engineered a handful of some of my favorite discs (Adrian Orange, etc) is in this band. AND they frigging live in Portland; you aren’t going to see them come through very often.

AHLEUCHATISTAS are on John Zorn’s label Tzadik and play with proficiency that matches. You will not see another show this year with guys ripping it up as much as them. But this is not a soulless, purely technical shred-fest. They really really rock. I’ll place bets now that over half the crowd will have their jaws dropped.

CEMENT STARS just released an album that captures them at their best, hooks galore. This will be the sumptuous vacation cruise portion of the evening.
